Follow a Leader

Published Jul 9, 2026 · Updated Oct 16, 2026

Found a lead trader you trust? Let AlphaFox follow every open and close they make from now on. The fastest entries are the Leader signals widget in the Trading Terminal under Trade and the cards in Plaza → Leader plaza. To follow several leaders or fine-tune risk, set it up yourself in Strategy → Create strategy.

Copy trading follows future signals only; it never opens the leader’s current positions, so a new copy strategy waits for the leader’s next move. Position late entry is the exception, covered below. Perpetual positions also pay or receive real funding rates, so results differ from backtests and paper—see Paper, Backtest, and Live Differences.

Which way to use

The one-click ways use the defaults: 100% copy ratio, both long and short, started automatically after creation.

Way 1: one-click follow in the Trading Terminal

Open the Leader signals widget

Click Trade in the navigation to open the Trading Terminal. If you don’t see Leader signals, add it with Add widget, or pick the Signals layout preset. The widget lists lead traders’ opens and closes on the current coin over the last 24 hours; use Filter lead traders to show just one. Terminal guide: Trading Terminal.

Vet the leader first

In the row’s Quick actions, click the DNA icon to open Lead Trader Analysis. Check the long-run curve, max drawdown, and win rate; don’t be swayed by one big win.

Click the rocket icon (Follow)

The “One-click follow” dialog explains that it creates a copy strategy and starts it right away. If you’re signed out, you go to login first and come back to the same signal.

Pick the executing account

Choose the trading account under API key; each option is labelled Paper or Live. Start with a paper account. If the list is empty, click Add API key to connect one.

Click Create and start

“Copy-trading Trader created” means it worked, and you land on the new strategy’s detail page. Track what it actually copies and its PnL in Strategy → My strategies, and stop it whenever it doesn’t fit.

Way 2: follow from the Leader plaza

On a card in the Leader plaza, click Paper to create a paper copy strategy in one step, or Follow to pick a paper or live account yourself. Cards, filters, and the dialog are covered in Leader Plaza.

Way 3: set it up in Create strategy

Pick a copy template

Open Strategy → Create strategy and choose a template in the Copy category:

TemplateUse it to
Simple Copy TradingFollow one signal source
Group Copy TradingCombine several leaders at different ratios
Reverse Copy TradingFollow a source in the opposite direction, long and short swapped
TradingView TradingFollow your own TradingView alerts; see Connect TradingView Signals

Add sources and set each one

Choose the leaders to follow under Signal source configs. Each leader has its own settings:

  • Copy ratio %: 100 by default; 50 follows at half size, above 100 amplifies size and risk.
  • Follow side: longs only, shorts only, or both.
  • Start after and Stop after times.
  • Leader drawdown stop %: when that leader’s own equity falls this far from its peak, the whole copy strategy stops.
  • Coins from this leader: a whitelist or blacklist.

Finish risk and notifications, then create

Choose the executing trading account, check the cost estimate, complete risk and notification settings, and create. Full creation flow: New Strategy.

Position late entry (Pro / Pro Max)

Simple Copy Trading and Group Copy Trading let you turn on Position late entry for each leader separately: a leader position is followed only after its loss reaches a threshold, and opens and closes are ignored before that.

SettingWhat it means
Late-entry modeFixed amount: triggers when that position loses the set USD amount. Equity percentage: triggers when the loss divided by the leader’s total equity reaches the set percentage
At activationUses the leader’s full current position as the target, still scaled by your copy ratio and risk limits; later increases and reductions are followed
Check frequencyLeader position snapshots are checked about every 30 seconds, not in real time; a brief crossing between checks can be missed
Existing positionsPositions that already qualify when the strategy starts can open immediately

Enabling and saving late entry requires Pro / Pro Max. If your membership lapses, enabled settings are kept and running behavior doesn’t change, but to save again you must upgrade or turn late entry off for every leader. Quick-copying a leaderboard config that has late entry enabled also requires Pro / Pro Max.

Switching late entry from off to on resets all activation states, including holdings you already follow. Until they reactivate, those holdings won’t follow the leader’s reductions or closes.

Bring in your own signal sources

Already following a leader on an exchange, or want to follow a Hyperliquid wallet or a TradingView strategy? Bring it in under Strategy → Copy signal management: Exchange credentials sync your exchange copy-trading relationships, and in My signals you click Add signal and pick Copy connection, Trading account API, Hyperliquid wallet (up to 5 addresses per account), or TradingView. Details: Copy Signal Management.

When a popular Binance lead trader is full, queue for a seat in Tools → Binance leader subscriptions.
